Writing Daily Life in 5-7-5

I’ve been writing haiku ever since I was in primary school and have been really fond of the format since then. I used to write haiku on a near daily basis when I was a teenager (yes, I was THAT writing nerd in high school) and then tried to again last year. I always get burned out or lazy eventually but I’m going to try my best this time year to write for as many consecutive days as possible.

I’ll be posting haiku here once every other day or so and each haiku will be about something from my day-to-day life. I find the act of writing, restrictive format poetry in particular, to be quite soothing and grounding. It allows me to bring my focus away from daily life struggles and onto the word choice, syllables and rhymes and in turn, I pay more attention to the small things. The small good things. The MANY small good things.

Just how delicious and vibrant the tomato soup I ate that one morning,

How much brighter leaves seem to get after heavy rain,

The smell of the winds changing as winter fades into much warmer weather…

Just a lot of good things really. I tend to be really negative and depressing in my head (and when speaking with friends) so I think this might be a good way to try and see the bright side of things. That, or release some of my frustrations and anxieties in a productive healthy manner.

Striking Out

Hullo there, humans, birds, one and all,

Welcome to the blog! I’ve made other blogs when I was a much younger fledgling and all were just short-term projects. This blog would be the first “serious” blog I’ll be writing and contributing to. Mainly because it’s a goal of mine in 2019 to strike out with my writing career. Wise humans say “nothing ventured, nothing gained” so it’s time to stop cowering and keeping my words to myself and try to be vulnerable and share my voice with the world. Even if it isn’t the best or most elegantly sounding one. It’s my voice and I would like to try and start believing in myself.

Enough of the mushy-gushy stuff! I hope to keep my content here mostly fun and not too too negative aaand they’ll mostly be about writing…literature…books…poetry. You get the idea! They may include:

>Short prose pieces
>Journal entries
>Literature reviews
>Art (relating to the writing pieces, reviews, or journals)
>And other stuff I can’t really think of at the moment

I’ll also be posting pieces I’ve written at a local Meetup writing group called the Writers Cafe. It’s where I get most of my writing done for the week (thanks guys). That’ll be in its own separate section together with some notes of what happened during the meetups (conversation does get interesting at time hehe).

And with that I think that’s all I have to say for now. Thank you for wandering here into my tiny little nest in this even tinier obscure corner of the Internet. I hope you enjoy your stay here and maybe drop some feedback if you are so kind- I will definitely read and do my best to respond.

Best regards,
